GREENE, SARAH MOORE - of Knoxville, departed this life early Wednesday, August 15, 2012. Born on February 22, 1910 in Madisonville, TN, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ike (Mary) Moore. She attended Tennessee A&I Normal School in Nashville, TN, now Tennessee State University. At age 21 she moved to Knoxville hoping to further her education at Knoxville College. She joined the fellowship of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and was a faithful member until her passing. Being the industrious person that she was, during her early years in Knoxville she operated a day care center at Ebenezer Baptist Church on Chestnut Street. She operated a business known as "Greene's Exquisite Shop", carried insurance, and joined with her sisters, Beatrice Miller and Etta Townsend, in operating a restaurant known as Bea's Grill. Mrs. Greene often said that her guiding prayer was, "Others Lord, yes others, let this my motto be. Help me to live for others, that I may live for Thee". Sarah Moore Greene was a highly accomplished and esteemed educator, civil rights advocate and revered community leader. She was an honorary member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Her work was centered in Knoxville, TN, but was evident throughout the State of Tennessee and the nation. Her effective political involvement, civil rights advocacy, social action, and educational leadership has merited numerous certificates of awards as well as recognition from the President of the United States and members of Congress. Those left to cherish her memory and celebrate her homegoing are: devoted nephew, Robert E. (Lesley Robinson) Miller; great nieces, Valerie M. (Winnetka) Miller; great-great nieces, Brandis Motley, Deaunna Jones, Nykia Miller, Tanesha Miller, Tiara Miller, Desiree Miller, Danielle Miller, Brianna Miller; great-great nephews, Estavon Pryor, Sean Motley, Chris Watkins, Stephen Watkins II, Ron Miller, Jr.; great-great-great nephews, Leviantay Pryor, Estavon Pryor, Daniel Motley, DeMarcus Watkins, Antonio Miller, Emari Miller; great-great-great nieces, Zioana Pryor, Champale Pryor, DaSeana Motley, Chrische Watkins, Chrishelle Watkins, Chrishaun Watkins, Lyric Miller, London Miller, Emon Miller, Terrencia Miller, Naima Miller, Brooklyn Miller, TaeAH'veon Miller; devoted cousin, Clifford (Evelyn) Thomas; godson, John Sibley; goddaughters, Betty (Paul) Lauderback, Doris Scott Crawford, Dr. Elaine DuVaul; godnieces, Hazel Miller, Annette Bell, Rose Spears and Johnetta Fraiser; devoted special friends, Margie Keese, A.B. Coleman and Jimmy Thacker; and many other devoted relatives and friends. Service of a Life Well Lived, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday at Mount Zion Baptist Church, Rev. Dr. Johnnie W. Skinner, Sr. presiding. Family will receive friends, 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Greater Warner AME Zion Church; homegoing service, 11:00 a.m., Rev. Dr. Johnnie W. Skinner, presiding.
