REV. ROBERT LYNN IRWIN

IRWIN, REV. ROBERT LYNN - of Knoxville, passed away peacefully, on April 24, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center - St. Mary's, following a long illness. Rev. Irwin retired from ministry in the United Methodist Church after 55 years, both before and after his retirement. He served as pastor of churches from Wilminton, NC, to Sacramento, CA, mostly in Holston Conference. He was Chaplain and assistant professor of religion and ethics at Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, TN. He volunteered for Interfaith Hospitality Network (Family Promise) from 1995 through 2003, starting networks in 26 cities across the USA, which found homes for over 2500 families. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ola Irwin; brother, Russell Irwin Handley; and sister, Betty Irwin. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jane Martin Irwin; his daughter, Amy Irwin Toney of Johnson City; Beth Irwin Morgan (Keith) of Chattanooga; and son Robert Martin Irwin of Knoxville; grandchildren, Jeremiah Toney of Asheville, NC, Jordan Toney, of Johnson City, Christin Maynor Arnold (Dion) of Chattanooga, Joey Maynor of Chattanooga and Kayla Maynor Moore (Devin) of Chattanooga; Great grandchildren Colston and Chloe Arnold of Chattanooga. Pallbearers will be Jeremiah Toney, Jordan Toney, Joey Maynor, and Devin Moore. Service will be 2:00 p.m. at St. Andrews United Methodist Church, on Plummer Drive in Knoxville, on Saturday the 28th of April, Rev. Bill Kilday and the Rev. Harry Rehagen officiating. Interment Lynnhurst Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to Alzheimer's Association of Knoxville or Interfaith Hospitality Network of Greater Knoxville, 313 Harley Drive, Knoxville, TN 37919.
