Ed was born in Morristown, Tennessee and was raised in nearby Bean Station, Tennessee. He was a graduate of Rutledge High School in Grainger County, TN and received his B.S. degree in finance from ETSU in Johnson City, Tennessee. Ed moved to the Knoxville area and had a 40 year career in the banking industry including executive positions at First Tennessee Bank, Sun Trust Bank and ORNL Federal Credit Union from which he retired in 2008. Ed enjoyed baseball and was the pitcher for several men's teams in Knoxville. He was an avid VOLS fan!
