HILYAR, MARY JANE COOK - age 91, of Knoxville, passed away peacefully, Monday, December 9, 2013. She was the daughter of the late Raymond Henry and Mary Alzenia Cook of Olney Springs, Colorado. Mary was a longtime member of Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church. She was very active with Daughters American Revolution, National and Cavett Station Chapter, serving in many positions within the local and the national level. Mary was also active within the Tennessee Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America; the Captain Carter Chapter of the National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century, Knoxville, TN; Knoxville Chapter, National Society Daughters of American Colonists - Ex-regent bar only; the East Tennessee Chapter, Magna Charta Dames and Barons. Mary was a graduate of the University of Tennessee and an avid fan of the Volunteers. She was a longtime employee of ORNL, working as a health physicist. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and beloved husband, John V. Hilyar. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Voncile Hilyar Redding of Montgomery, Alabama; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church with a celebration of Mary's life to be held following, with Reverend Clay Harrington officiating. Interment will be private. The family has expressed that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church Missions, 9132 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37923.
