WALKER, JOE HURST - age 69, of Harriman, passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville. Walker, a Harriman native and Harriman attorney since 1971, was the son of the late Ben and Myrtle Walker. He was a graduate of Harriman High School and the University of Tennessee. In the early 1970's he served as county attorney for almost six years. In 1977, Joe was a delegate to the State Constitutional Convention and he served for about ten years as a county delinquent tax attorney. He was the first public defender in the Ninth Judicial District and has served in that position since 1989. Joe was a member of the Harriman United Methodist and the Harriman Kiwanis Club. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Andy and Deborah Walker, Josh and Dayna Walker; daughter, Veronica Suzanne Walker and fiancé Chase Ray; sister, Ruth Clabo; and grandchildren, Taylor Walker, Matthew Walker, and Nathan Walker. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, 2:00 p.m. at the Harriman United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Parker officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Rockwood. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 24, 5:00 - 8:00 p.m., at the Kyker Funeral Home Chapel in Harriman.
