GOSHEN — Delores A. Thomas, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014.
Mrs. Thomas was a registered nurse, graduating from Lakeview School of Nursing (University of Illinois
affiliation) in 1953.
She and her husband, Rev. Jack Thomas, served as missionaries to Sierra Leone, Africa, for more than 12 years. She maintained a medical clinic among the Kono Tribe, treating thousands of patients.
In addition to aiding her husband with his churches since 1967, she supervised a low income health care clinic in Muncie, worked in nursing homes and volunteered with the Red Cross.
She was born to Cleveland and Mary (Mains) Handley in Danville, Ill., on Dec. 22, 1930. On June 13, 1954, she married Rev. Jack K. Thomas, who is presently the pastor of Wolcottville United Methodist Church.
They have two children, Stanton (Judy) of Syracuse and Tonda (Mrs. Howard Langdon) of Goshen, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held Saturday, March 15, from 1 to 3 p.m., at First United Methodist Church, Goshen.
