AUBURN — Dirk Wayne Smurr, 59, of Auburn passed away Sunday, July 20, 2014, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.
He was born May 17, 1955 in Garrett to Jack W. and Betty (Roush) Smurr. His mother has passed away and his father survives in Garrett.
Dirk was a U.S. Air Force
Veteran, and worked in the Home Health Care Services for a number of years. He was the custodian at DeKalb Middle School in Waterloo. He retired in 2008. He also owned and operated, with his wife, Susan, Scott's Landing on Golden Lake.
He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Auburn and loved the water, water sports, nature and spending time at the lake. One of the things he was avid about was rescuing and saving animals which he has done for many years, and he loved the Green Bay Packers.
Dirk married Susan Scott on June 17, 1991, in the Botanical Garden in Fort Wayne and she survives in Auburn.
He is also survived by his brother, Jack R. Smurr, and his wife, Renee, of Garrett, and a niece and a nephew.
A Memorial Service is at 2 p.m. Friday at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn.
The family will receive friends 3 hours prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Auburn.
Memorials can be given in Dirk's name to the DeKalb County Humane Shelter or Steuben County Humane Shelter.
