KENDALLVILLE — Joel Kevin Johnson, 59, of Kendallville, died on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Shepherd of the Hill of Kendallville.
He was born in Kendallville on December 10, 1954 to Augustus Roger "Gus" Johnson and Arla F. (Greenman) Johnson. He graduated from East Noble High School in 1973. He was a past member of the Indiana University
alumni association having graduated with an associate's degree in business. After graduation, he was a sales representative for Lyall Electric and later an installment loan officer for Kendallville Bank and Trust. Along with his father, he was owner/operator of Johnson Auto Sales in Kendallville for many years. He enjoyed playing basketball, and following the I.U. basketball and the Indianapolis Colts football teams.
Survivors include his mother, Arla Johnson of Kendallville; two sisters, Melody (Dan) Belschner of Kendallville, and Janice (Ron) Williams of Los Angeles, California; two nieces, Crystal (Dan) Cochard of Kendallville, and Karen Snow of Mt. Airy, North Carolina; a nephew, R. Corey (Sarah) Culler of Kendallville; and two uncles, Dr. R. Lynn Greenam of Kendallville, and Donald M. Greenwood of Sebring, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gus Johnson, on December 6, 2000 and two infant brothers, R. Brent Chrystler and Keith Chrystler.
A private memorial service will be held. There will be no visitation.
