ANGOLA — Richard E. Smith, 83, of Angola, Ind., and Brownsburg, Ind., passed away on April 27, 2014. Dick was surrounded by his loving wife of 63 years, Margaret, and family at his beloved Silver Lake home.
His pleasures in life included working and playing with his children and grandchildren. He delighted in helping at the Angola United Methodist Church kitchen, kidding the girls, tasting pickles and cookies, and volunteering at hospice, Pokagon State Park, and the Silver Lake Association.
He was a member of the Brownsburg Masonic Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star, and the American Telephone and Telegraph Pioneers.
He was predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Frances Smith; a sister Shirley Faucett; and son, Richard E. "Rich" Smith II. Survivors include his wife Margaret Smith; and his children, Sharon Hobson (Wayne), Karon Jaynes (Lynn), Dan Smith (Shelly), and daughter-in-law Debbie Smith.
He had 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and 3 stepgrandchildren.
Arrangements are through H. E. Johnson and Sons Funeral Home, Angola.
Service will be at Angola United Methodist Church on Friday, May 2, with calling from 10-11 a.m. and services at 11 a.m.
