AUBURN — Glen "Joe" Freeburn Jr., 89, of Auburn passed away Friday, June 20, 2014, at DeKalb Health in Auburn.
Joe was born Dec. 8, 1924, in St. Joe, to Glen Freeburn Sr. and Emma (Wineland) Freeburn.
He was a 1942 graduate of St. Joe High School. After graduation, Joe enlisted in the military where he served for the United States Army during World War II.
He married Bertha Maxine Keller on Dec. 19, 1964, in Garrett, and she passed away Oct. 25, 1988.
He worked for Brooks Construction as a heavy equipment operator, retiring in Dec. of 1988.
Joe was a member of the St. Mark's Lutheran Church in St. Joe.
Surviving are four sons and daughters-in-law, John and Judy Leeper of Fort Wayne, Tom Leeper of Fort Wayne, Don and Brenda Leeper of Fort Wayne, and Jerry and Sandy Leeper of St. Joe; two daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Frank Montes of Riverside, California, and Rose and Dan Dickerhoof of Waterloo; 15 grandchildren and their spouses, Chris Leeper, Tina McKenzie, Cory and Maria Leeper, Tracy Leeper, Patty and Bill Anderson, Todd and Carolyn Leeper, Kim and Steve Gillie, Nikki and John Gillie, Tina and Ed Holmes, Carol Montes, Frank Montes Jr., Darrin and Jennifer Dickerhoof, Damian Dickerhoof, Clint and Jodi Leeper, and Shane and Jamie Leeper; 33 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ethel Haverstock of Salt Lake City, Utah; and several nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a grandchild, Tawnie Miller; two brothers, Richard Freeburn and Charles "Chuck" Freeburn; and a sister, Effiebell McCann.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn, with the Rev. Floyd A. Shoup officiating. Burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery in St. Joe with military graveside honors conducted by the United States Army and American Legion Post 97 of Auburn.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
