AUBURN — Ben Davis, 77, of Auburn, passed away Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
He was born Feb. 21, 1937, in Indianapolis, to Oscar H. and Lois G. (Harmon) Davis. Ben attended Trinity Lutheran grade school in Indianapolis. He attended high school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and then joined the United States Navy where he was stationed in Mannheim, Germany on the Rhine River Patrol. After returning from the military, he attended Indiana Central College and Lain Business College.
He worked for American Fletcher National Bank in Indianapolis and Illinois. He then entered the automobile business in Fort Wayne in 1970, serving as general sales manager at Jim Kelley Buick. He then served as president and general manager of Northway Chrysler, and was sales manager at Hefner Chevrolet. In 1980, he became owner of Rohm Chevrolet, which became Ben Davis Chevrolet and in 2013 became co-owner of Ben Davis Ford.
Ben was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne and Hope Lutheran Church in Bonita Springs, Florida. He was a former member of the Greenhurst Country Club in Auburn and was currently a member of the Shadow Wood Country Club in Bonita Springs, Florida.
Ben served on the Auburn Plan Commission and the Board of Zoning Appeals.
He married Alice "Joan" Kuntz on Nov. 25, 1978, in Fort Wayne, and she survives in Auburn.
Also surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Brian Davis of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Brent and Shannon Davis of Auburn; two daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Dr. Gary Gotsch of Fort Wayne, and Michele and Chris Kausch of Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren, Nathan Gotsch, Amanda and Dan Campbell, Chrysta and Barrett Grebing, Cory Kausch, Alex Davis, Meg Kausch, Kyle Davis, and Madison Davis; and one great-grandson, Miles Campbell; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Frank Clodfelder of Indianapolis; a brother, Dennis Davis of Indianapolis; three nieces; one nephew; and three great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Betty Davis; and a brother, Larry Davis.
The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014, at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn.
A private graveside service will take place Wednesday at Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn with military honors conducted by the United States Navy. Pallbearers will be, Nathan Gotsch, Cory Kausch, Alex Davis, Kyle Davis, Dan Campbell, and Barrett Grebing. Honorary pallbearers will be, Gary Gotsch, Chris Kausch, Dale Hummer, Jim Ingledue, Jed Copenhaver, Jerry Garrison, Randy Amstutz, and Tom Shawver.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 917 W. Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne, with visitation from 2-3 p.m. prior to the service at the church. The Rev. Thomas Eggold will be officiating.
