KENDALLVILLE — Iola Smith, age 85, of Kendallville died on Monday, August 4, 2014, at Presence Sacred Heart Home in Avilla.

Mrs. Smith was born in Hindman, Kentucky, on September 21, 1928, to Elliott Davidson and Dora (Fugate) Davidson.
She married Harold L. Smith on June 24, 1954, in Carrie, Kentucky. He preceded her in death on October 7, 2008.
For most of her life Mrs. Smith was a homemaker. She also worked for Kraft Foods in Kendallville for 10 years from 1968 to 1978. Prior to working at Kraft, she worked for Lyle Electric for five years.
She loved to garden and spend time with her grandkids.
Survivors include four sons, Jack and Robin Davidson of Jefferson, Georgia, David and Paula Smith of San Carlos, California, Keith Smith of Avilla and Bill Smith of Kendallville; a daughter, Pam and Steve Trowbridge of Kendallville; a daughter-in-law, Laverna Reaves of Avon, Indiana; 12 grandchildren, Jeff Davidson of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Michael Smith of North Carolina, Tarrah Pollaro of San Francisco, Zach Reaves of Avon, Indiana, Tricia Smith of San Francisco, California, Tabitha McClure of Indianapolis, Brandi Ley of Avilla, Kayleah Smith of Fort Wayne, Joseph and Drew Trowbridge of Kendallville, Ryan Whetstone of Atlanta, and Megan Bell of Hartwell, Georgia; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Blanton and Dorothy Davidson of Kendallville; and a sister, Lottie Inzer of Kendallville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; Harold L. Smith; a son, Ron Reaves; grandson, Christopher Trowbridge; a sister; Donice "Sis" Hudson; and two brothers, Don Davidson and Lavaughn Davidson.
Visitation will be Wednesday, August 6, 2014, from 2-7 p.m. at Hite Funeral Home, 403 S. Main St., Kendallville.
Funeral services will be Thursday, August 7, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Hite Funeral Home.
Burial will be at Sweet Cemetery in Albion, Indiana.
