ROME CITY — Chuck Rhetts, age 69, of Rome City lost his battle with cancer on Friday, August 1, 2014 at his Sylvan Lake home.

Mr. Rhetts was born in Marion, Indiana on February 6, 1945 to Charles Rhetts II and Rebecca (Butterworth) Rhetts.
He graduated from Garrett High School in 1963. After high school he went on to attend and graduate from Indiana University in Bloomington. During his time at IU he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity.
After college Mr. Rhetts honorably served his country in the United States Army from January of 1968 to September of 1969.
He married his wife Mickey on September 19, 1995, in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. She survives on Sylvan Lake.
Mr. Rhetts worked for CSX Railroad in Garrett for 30 years. Following his retirement from CSX he worked for Indiana Structral Component Parts in Ligonier for four years.
He loved dragracing motorcycles and cars. He also enjoyed living and fishing on Sylvan Lake. Chuck was an avid Texas Hold 'Em player and would play several times a week.
Survivors include his wife, Mickey Rhetts of Rome City; four daughters, Jessica Oden of Nashville, Indiana, Lisa Cordial of Kendallville, Joey and Rob Bialek of Aurora, Illinois, and Jamie Walker and Brent Fox of Fishers, Indiana; a son Jeremy and Jamey Walker of Kendallville; 17 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Leslie and Charlie Lloyd of Clinton, Maryland, and Sue Miller of Garrett; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A gathering of friends and family will be Saturday, August 23, 2014, from 1-4 p.m. at Hite Funeral Home, 403 S. Main St. in Kendallville.
