LAOTTO — Pamela Sue Schmidt, age 57, passed away surrounded by her family at her rural LaOtto home on Sunday afternoon, March 9, 2014. She had been fighting a long battle with cancer for the past 2 1/2 years.
She was born on April 13, 1956, in Allen County and was the only daughter of Paul Gene and Geraldine Lucille (Stellar) Hadley. She came to the Avilla area 37 years ago from Fort Wayne.
She graduated from Carroll High School in the Class of 1974.
On October 11, 1975, she married Gerald "Gerry" Allen Schmidt at the St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Fort Wayne. He survives in LaOtto.
Mrs. Schmidt was the secretary for St. Mary's Catholic School in Avilla for more than 22 years. She was very dedicated to the students and faculty and was dearly loved by everyone at St. Mary's.
She adored spending special time with her family, especially all of her granddaughters. A lot of her time was spent crafting, gardening, spending time at the lake and she just loved being outdoors.
Other survivors include her father, Paul Hadley of Huntertown; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carrie and Eric Rupley of Garrett and Amee and Adam Gullett of Avilla; her granddaughters, Bailey, Brooklyn and Kenadee Rupley and Mia, Atalie and Avarie Gullett; and her brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Susan Hadley of Columbus, Ohio.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Geraldine Hadley on February 25, 2014; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Howard and Dolores Schmidt.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church in Avilla. Father Daniel Chukwuleta will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Avilla.
Visitation will be on Friday evening from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brazzell Funeral Home, Avilla Chapel. A Rosary service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m.
There is one hour of visitation prior to the Mass on Saturday.
