BRIMFIELD — Diamond Hicks, 82, of Brimfield went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at 6:45 p.m. in Lutheran Life Village, Kendallville.
He was born September 5, 1931, in Caretta, West Virginia, to Hubert and Martha Hicks. On December 27, 1955, in War, West Virginia, he married Thelma Mitchell.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Hicks was a member of the Lighthouse Tabernacle Church in Kimmell.
He retired from Newnam Foundry in Kendallville in 1991.
Diamond enjoyed going to auctions, watching old Westerns, and working in his garden. He never met a stranger. His favorite saying was, "Do you like gravy and biscuits and fried apples?" He dearly loved his Lord and Savior. He also loved his dog, Princess.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Thelma; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs. Ronald (Jeanette) Click of Kendallville, Mrs. Chester (Janet) Beavers of Wawaka, and Mrs. Ronald (Julie) Harroff of Rome City; a sister, Maudie Woods of Kentucky; a special honorary daughter, Mildred Senter of Ligonier; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and a world of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Raven Hicks and Hulen Hicks; a sister, Ruby Ballard; and a special honorary son-in-law, Eddie Senter.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 15, 2014, at 11 a.m. in the Lighthouse Tabernacle Church, 6522 E. Noe St., Kimmell, with Pastor Glen Patrick, Pastor Ron Bell and Pastor Wayne Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Orange Cemetery, Rome City.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Slone, Philip Slone, Trevor Slone, Eric Slone, Austin Slone and Mike Bortner.
Military graveside services will be provided by Rome City American Legion Post 381, Kendallville VFW Post 2749, Kendallville American Legion Post 86, and active duty members of the U.S. Army.
Calling is today, Friday, March 14, 2014, after 2 p.m. in the church where there will be an evening service at 6 p.m.
