Odessa J. Hofer, 95 a long-time teacher in the Lower Yakima Valley, and resident of Ellensburg, died of a heart attack on February 27, 2013 in Ellensburg, WA. Odessa was born in Oklahoma in 1918 and moved with her parents to a farm on Fort Road in 1935. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Grace Greene, her husband William P. Hofer, and her son William J. Hofer. She is survived by her daughter Marietta, grandchildren, Tricia (Doug) Brown and Christy Jo (Andrew) Thwing, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren as well as many of her beloved treasured students.

After graduation from Central Washington College of Education in 1939, Odessa taught school for 43 years in the Lower Yakima Valley. She taught at White Swan, Harrah, Union Gap, Toppenish Junior High, Wapato Intermediate School and in addition, Taught 5th and 6th grade classes while being the principal at McKinley Elementary School (now Heritage College) during WWII. Odessa was an exceptional teacher and loved all of her students as if they were her very own. Many of her previous students have kept in touch with her over the years and often stopped by her home to show off their families and tell of their successes in life.
Funeral services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 808 Magnolia (Magnolia is off of the Kittitas Hwy), Ellensburg, WA on April 13 at 11:00am. A reception/celebration of life will follow.
