Gilbert A Ulmer

1925 - 2010

Gilbert A. Ulmer was born March 19, 1925 in Lodi CA to Arthur J. Ulmer and Elsie Marie (Schmidt) Ulmer. He was raised in Ellensburg, the eldest of five children.

Gil join the Army Air Corps at the beginning of WWII and trained as a waist gunner on a B-17 bomber. Stationed in England he earned two Bronze Stars and an Air Service Medal. After the war, he settled in Washington and in 1952 he married Phyllis C. Summers and began raising a family. In 1961, Gil began his twenty-eight year career with the U.S. Postal Service. Once retired he enjoyed golfing and fishing with his buddies, traveling, and e-mailing jokes to family and friends. He is remembered for his great sense of humor and infectious giggle.

He was preceded in death by his brother Leonard Ulmer, sister Ann Hill and his son Gail. He is survived by his daughter Louise (Ulmer) Walkowiak, her husband Robert their daughters Erin and Amber of Dufur, OR, his sisters Erna Alexander of Seattle and Janette Woody of Condon OR, his granddaughter Alisha Sandvig of Ellensburg, many nieces and nephews, and Phyllis C. Summers of Dufur, OR.

Viewing Thursday 12pm at Affordable Funeral Care and again Friday 9 to 10am. Funeral at IOOF cemetery at 11am, followed by an informal gathering at American Legion Hall.
