James Alton Bennett, 85, of Elizabethtown, died Wednesday, Feb 13, 2013, at his residence.
He was a native of Hardin County, served in the Army
during the Korean War
and was a member of the American Legion Post 113 and Northside Baptist Church. He worked for Kroger for 42 years where he was head of the meat department. He loved to hunt and garden.
He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Mary Louise McGimsey Bennett; his parents, William Ira and Elsie Mae Goodin Bennett; and three brothers, Harold Lloyd Bennett, Charles Warren Bennett and Marvin Emmett Bennett.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Josie Bradley Bennett; a daughter, Janice (Kenny) Lewis, of Elizabethtown; a son, Larry (Sharon) Bennett, of Elizabethtown; four stepsons, Joey (Janet) Littlejohn, Marvin (Marty) Littlejohn, and Tim Littlejohn, all of Bardstown, and Wayne (Pam) Littlejohn of Elizabethtown; a stepdaughter, Evelyn (Tee) Watkins of Bardstown; a brother, William Ira Bennett, of Elizabethtown; a sister, Anna Swan Bechanan, of Elizabethtown; three grand- daughters, Gina (Ricky) Hinote; Kelli Lewis and Tracy Ryan; a grandson, Jason (Katherine) Bennett; two great-grandchildren, Shelby Ryan and Noah Hinote; 13 step-grandchildren; and 14 stepgreat- grandchildren.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, at Brown Funeral Home with burial in Elizabethtown City Cemetery. The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate.
Visitation will 4-8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, and continue after noon Sunday, Feb. 17, at the funeral home.
