Joseph Albert "Boot" Masterson, 84, of New Hope, died Jan. 30, 2014, at Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown.
He was born Nov. 9, 1929, in Nelson County. He formerly worked at the New Hope Grocery and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He loved nature and was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Ignatius and Mary Lilly Woods Masterson; an infant daughter, Mary Masterson; five sisters, Rosine O'Bryan, Cecelia Cissell, Sister Matilda Masterson, Bertha Masterson and Nancy McCauley; and four brothers, George, Robert, John "Tee" and Jim Masterson.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Betty Lou Riggs Masterson; a daughter, Kay (Dennis) Allgeier; a son, Ray Masterson; two grandsons, Jacob and Levi, all of Bardstown; and two sisters, Anna Lee Greenwell, of Bardstown, and Margaret Smith, of Connersville, Ind.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 104 Church St. in New Hope, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Ken Fortener will be the celebrant.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road in Loretto, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. by the Rev. Deacon Eddie Hutchins.
