Joseph Roger Ballard, 56, of Murrieta, Calif., formerly of Holy Cross, died April 29, 2013, in California. He was a 1974 graduate of Marion County High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy.

He was preceded in death by his father, Emerson Ballard; a brother, James Glenn Ballard; a sister, Emma Jane Ballard; and his stepfather, J.B. Boone.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Ballard-Boone, of Bardstown; his companion, Linda Wolfinger; her children, Andrew and Nicole and her grandchildren, all of Murrieta, Calif.; two brothers, Bruce Ballard, of White City, and Ralph (Lola) Ballard, of Bardstown; two sisters, Grace (Gary) Cambron and Nora Ballard, all of Bardstown; three stepsisters, Anita Case, Mary Culver and Becky Smith; two stepbrothers, Bernie Boone and Greg Boone; eight nieces and nephews; several aunts, uncles, cousins, stepnieces and stepnephews.
Cremation was chosen. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at Holy Cross Cemetery, 3560 N. St. Francis Road, in Loretto, where military rites will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation is 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road in Loretto, with a prayer service at 1 p.m. by the Rev. Jeff Hopper.
Mattingly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
