Robert "Bob" Hayden Netherland, 51, of Bardstown, died Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Flaget Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Portsmouth, Va., born Dec. 26, 1961, to the late Charles Edwin "C.E." and Margaret Lewis McCubbin Netherland. He received his bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Campbellsville University, a bachelor of science degree in biology from Western Kentucky University and a master's in social work from the University of Kentucky. He was a social worker for many years working for private organizations and state agencies. He was a former employee of Wal-Mart working in the meat/dairy department. He was a member of Parkway Baptist Church, worked with Special Olympics of Kentucky for 26 years and was the Pentathlon Director and a former Deacon at Tatesbrook Church in Lexington.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Kathy Lynn Hardin Netherland; two daughters, Holly Alyssa Netherland and Samantha Grace Netherland, both of Bardstown; a sister, Carla (Richard) Netherland Hodges, of Laurinburg, N.C.; a brother, Jan (wife-Jill Barranton) Netherland, of Panama City, Fla.; and two nieces, Michelle Hodges (Steve) Linthicum, and Melanie (Matt) Hodges Mason.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 20, at Parkway Baptist Church with burial in Bardstown Cemetery. Pastor James Carroll will officiate.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Friday, July 19, at Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home and additional visitation will be 9 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service at Parkway Baptist Church.
The family has requested that contributions be made to: Special Olympics of Kentucky, Humane Society of Nelson County, Hospice of Nelson County, Nelson County
