A Bardstown resident, Mr. Russell Phelps Dixon, 84, passed away Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. He was a native of Madison County, a retired Master Sargeant after serving 27 years in the US Army serving in Korean and Vietnam Wars, was a KY. Colonel and a member of the Masons.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alene Thompson Dixon; his parents, Charles Dixon and Maggie Denney Dixon; and 12 brothers and sisters.
He is survived by two daughters, Barbara Dixon, of Lexington, Betty (Richard) Hancock, of Vine Grove; grandchildren, Cassie and Rusty Edington; and many nieces, nephews and other family members. He is also survived by his much beloved beagle, Kelsey, that has been his faithful companion.
Private arrangements have been made and there is no public services. Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
