Thomas W. Bishop, 64, of Bardstown, formerly of Louisville, died Monday, June 10, 2013, while visiting in Louisville.
Tom was one of nine children of Belvin and Holly Bishop. He loved his family, and being with his brothers and sisters. He had a fondness for music, dance, song and having a good time, often opening his home for gatherings of friends and family. He took thousands of photos documenting the good times they had together.
Tom was a loyal, warm and devoted friend to many and would gladly lend a hand to anyone who asked. He was down-to-earth and unassuming. He never gave up his childlike goodness and wholesomeness. He shared his experience and advice freely, never expecting anything in return. Though Tom never had children of his own, his nieces and nephews remember him as a father figure.
He was a master gardener who spent many hours in his prize-worthy yard. He was an accomplished artist and craftsman from an early age. He had a creative solution for almost every challenge.
He was an Air Force veteran.
Tom retired from General Electric in Louisville in 2004 after more than 35 years of service. In retirement he volunteered his time to his community.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Belvin and Holly Bishop; and brothers, Belvin Jr., and Robert.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Anita Markwell Bishop; siblings Betty Laws (Jerry), Belva Wolz (Herman), Mary Carpenter (Bob), Bill Bishop (Christine Sivori), Bonnie Wright (Larry) and John Bishop (Sue); 22 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
He will be missed by brothers-in-law Lee (Marte), Denny (Joan E.) and Joe (Donna) Markwell; a sister-in-law Marilyn Markwell (Carl French); Bardstown neighbors, and longtime friends.
Tom was an organ donor. He was cremated.
The family wishes to thank friends for their constant love and support.

We are so very sorry to hear of the loss of Tommy. Unfortunately, we only had the pleasure of meeting him once. It sounds like as much as he gave to others in life, he has now given even more in death as an organ donar. What a beautiful gift! May the memories of the great guy that he was live on in your hearts forever until you see him again.
