Bernice Whitehouse May was born June 6, 1923, in Bradfordsville, in Marion County, to the late Fred Barry Whitehouse and Amelda Mattingly Whitehouse. She departed this life Monday, April 15, 2013, at her home in Campbellsville.

She was a 45-year resident of Bardstown. For 35 years she was a familiar face downtown working as store manager at Dobbs Family Shoe Store. She was an active member of Bardstown Baptist Church for 45 years. She lovingly supported her Sunday School class. Working as receptionist/clerk for Kurtz Parkview Motel for many years, she welcomed the growth of tourism in Bardstown.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Roy E. May; five brothers and five sisters, Eddie, Henry, Hudson, Robert and Paul Whitehouse, Alma Ellis, Louise Carnes, Donna Able, Mamie Hood and Helen.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Gary and Betsy May, of Washington, Conn., and Freddie May, of Campbellsville; and a daughter and son-in-law, Coleen and Henry Fulks, of Bardstown; plus a host of other relatives and friends.
The family chose cremation. There will be a memorial service scheduled at a later date.
Foster-Toler-Curry Funeral Home in Greensburg is in charge of arrangements.
