Eugene Newton, 84, of Holy Cross, died Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at his residence.
He was born March 17, 1930, in Holy Cross. He was a retired farmer and former employee of Heaven Hill Distillery in Bardstown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Marion and Lula Catherine Cissell Newton; two sons, Wayne and Glenn Newton; five sisters, Elizabeth Nalley, Alice McIntyre, Ursula Riggs, Lula Taylor and Anna Marie Newton; and five brothers, Robert, Charlie, J.P., Tommy and Bud Newton.
Survivors include his companion, Jean Lakes; three daughters, Karen (Steve McCoy) Dean and Debbie (Bobby) Blair, all of St. Francis and Lou (Ike) Smith, of Greenbrier; two sons, Bill (Vickie) Newton and Gene (Missy Miles) Newton, all of St. Francis; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and a great-great grandson; two sisters, Dorothy Newton, of Bardstown, and Arletha Miles, of Holy Cross, the mother of his children, Betty Newton, of Bardstown and his caregiver, Robin Miles; and two sisters-in-law, Rosie Newton, of Bardstown, and Brenda Newton, of Holy Cross.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 3560 N. St. Francis Road in Loretto, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. R. Joseph Hemmerle will be the celebrant.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Friday, May 2, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road in Loretto, with a prayer service at 5 p.m.
