Gerald Lynn Gillis Sr., 77, of Bloomfield, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2018, at Flaget Memorial Hospital. He was born Dec. 8, 1940, in Anderson County to the late Cecil and Irene Wells Gillis. Gerald was the owner of Gerald Gillis C.P.A., former Professor at Watterson College, was the mayor of Bloomfield from 1987-1993, served on Bloomfield City Council from 2001-2004, was a member of Bloomfield Christian Church Disciples of Christ where he was a past chairman of the board, and loved to fish.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara and Elaine Gillis.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Gail Wright Gillis; his daughter, Leslie (Carl) Booth, of Seffner, Fla.; his son, Gerald Lynn (Diane) Gillis Jr., of West Melbourne, Fla.; his sister, Linda Whitworth, of Shelbyville; and four grandchildren, Samantha and Casey Booth, and Celine and Nathan Gillis.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, at Bloomfield Christian Church Disciples of Christ. Bro. Bobby Olliges and Bro. Tom Pierce will officiate. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, at Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield. Additional visitation will be after 8 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, until the time of the at the church.
Houghlin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
