Mr. John Joseph "Jack" Greenwell, 80, of Bardstown, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2018, at Hardin Memorial Hospital after a long battle with COPD.
He was born in Louisville to the late James Kendrick and Mayme Buehner Greenwell. John was a 1955 graduate of St. Xavier High School, then served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He retired from the U.S. Naval Ordnance with 32 years of service, then retired from Nazareth Campus Service. John was a member of NOSL Supervisors Association and St. Joseph Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Oechslin Greenwell; a son, John Michael "Mike" Greenwell, of Bardstown; a sister-in-law, Ann Bellingham, of Louisville; one grandson, Steven (Amanda) Montgomery, of Bardstown; and two great grandchildren, Riley and Carson Montgomery, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at noon Monday, May 14, at Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Bradshaw celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. with an evening prayer service at 7 p.m. and visitation after 8:30 a.m. Monday at Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, 1475 New Shepherdsville Road.
The family requests that expression of sympathy take the form of contributions to Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, P.O. Box 9, Nazareth, KY 40048. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Flaget Memorial Hospital and Hardin Memorial Hospital for their care.
