Joseph Earl Wheatley, 87, of Springfield, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, at the University of Louisville Hospital. Born Oct. 23, 1930, in Washington County.He was a lifelong farmer in Washington County, worked at Ford Motor Co. in Louisville as a assemblyman for 17 years and was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He was U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis Earl and Marie Smith Wheatley; a brother, Albert Wheatley; and five sisters, Corine Barr, Dottie Mattingly, Frankie Carrico, Virginia Smith and Sara Rita Mudd.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Theresa Luckett Wheatley; two sons, Kevin Wheatley, of Lawrenceburg, and Mark Wheatley, of Springfield; five daughters, Pam "Steve" Hill, Mary Jo "Gene" Nalley and Fran "Scott" Thompson, all of Bardstown, Angela "Ricky" Elder, of Cincinnati, and Marsha "Wayne" Mattingly, of Celina, Texas; one brother, John R. Wheatley, of Springfield; five sisters, Christine Blandford, Charlotte "Helem" Lewis and Nancy Elder, all of Louisville, Lucy "Kenny" Hamilton and Marilyn "Jimmy Howard" Fenwick, all of Springfield; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
The funeral Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fredericktown with the Rev. Matthew Hardesty, the Rev. Terry Bradshaw and the Rev. Jack Caldwell officiating. Burial will be in St. Rose Cemetery with military honors rendered by Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, and 7-9 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, at Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home where a prayer service will held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6
Pallbearers were his grandchildren Ryan Hill, Richard Elder, Aaron Thompson, Joseph Thompson, Trent Mattingly, Evan Mattingly, Chase Mattingly and Anna Wheatley.
Honorary pallbearers were granddaughters, Stephanie Hornback, Allison Stone and Erica Forst.
