Joseph Edwin Darst, 80, of Cox's Creek, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at UK Hospital in Lexington. He was born Nov. 29, 1937, in Leitchfield. He was a former employee of General Electric and a former Nelson County School bus driver. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was an avid coin collector and also enjoyed tinkering with old clocks.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Edwin and Mary Ellen Smallwood Darst; one sister, Betty Peerenboom; and one brother, Charles Darst.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Cordie Phelps Darst; three daughters, Joann Darst, of Clarksville, Ind., Edwinnia Wasdin (Joel), of Jacksonville, Fla., and Datha Thompson (Eric), of Holy Cross; one son, Greg Darst, of Holy Cross; five grandchildren, Burcu Darst, Joey Darst, Erica Thompson, Joshua Darst and Cory Thompson.
The funeral is 7 p.m. Friday, June 8, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road in Loretto, with cremation to follow. The Rev. Deacon Joseph R. Dant will preside.
Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Friday, June 8, at Mattingly Funeral Home.
