Joseph Estill McWhorter, 67, Springfield, passed away Friday, June 22, 2012, at Flaget Memorial Hospital, Bardstown. He was a native of Marion County and he was born Oct. 8, 1944. Survivors include his wife, Mary J. Smalley McWhorter; two sons, Byron Lopeze McWhorter, Lebanon, and Joseph McWhorter, Jr., Yuma, Ariz.; a daughter, Mary Mitchell (Perry), Bardstown; three brothers, Claude McWhorter and William Stanley McWhorter, both of Louisville, and Frank McWhorter, Springfield; and five sisters, Idella Washington, Prudie Mae Boykins, Christine McWhorter, Fannie Elizabeth Adams and Gloria Jean Broughton, all of Louisville. Funeral services will be noon Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Deacon Gus Cooper and the Rev. Ben Brown officiating. Burial will be in St. Dominic-Holy Rosary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joseph McWhorter, John McWhorter, Shawn McWhorter, Demetris Broughton, Jimmy King, David Churchill and Quan Spalding. Carey & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
