Joseph Jerome "Jerry" Newton, 67, of St. Francis, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2018, at Norton Hospital in Louisville. He was born Feb. 16, 1951, in Holy Cross. He was a retired employee of the Nelson County Road Department with 28 years of service. He loved his grandbabies and Newton Valley Farm.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Marie Newton; five sisters, Pauline Curtsinger, Nancy Mattingly, Judy Satterly, Susie Mattingly and infant Brenda Sue Newton; and two brothers, Carl and David Newton.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Newton; four children, Jeremy Newton (Jacque) and Wendy Welch (Travis), all of Bardstown, Patrick Alvey (Stacy) and Amanda Carlton (David), all of Loretto; 11 grandchildren, Lexi Newton, Devan Newton, Janet Newton, Landon Miller, D.J. Carlton, Dallas Carlton, Cody Alvey, Ethan Alvey, Alivia Alvey, Jack Welch and Kade Welch; and one sister, Mary Ann Willett (Freddie), of Bardstown.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, at Holy Cross Catholic Church. The Rev. Deacon Joseph R. Dant will preside. Cremation will follow.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road in Loretto, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Pallbearers are Craig Mattingly, Patrick Alvey, Jeremy Newton, Devan Newton, Scott Willett, Steve Mudd and Keith Willett.
His grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mattingly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
