Joseph Marvin Mattingly, 83, of Bardstown, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017, at Bardstown Health and Rehab. He was born Nov. 7, 1934, in Springfield. He was a butcher for A & P and Foodland, a 1952 graduate of St. Joseph Prep School, PTO president for St. Joseph Elementary School, a member of St. Joseph Men's Club, U.S. Army veteran who served in Korea from 1956-1958 and enjoyed world travel.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph A. and Mary Mattingly; a sister, Letty Yates; and his wife, Ruth Elizabeth.
He is survived by five children, T. Scott Mattingly (Mary), of Bardstown, Michael K. Mattingly, Julia M. Mattingly, Janet K. Mattingly both of Portland, Oregon, and Anthony C. Mattingly, of Seattle; and one granddaughter, Laura K. Mattingly, of Bardstown.
His memorial prayer service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Barlow Funeral Home with burial in St. Thomas Cemetery. The Rev. Terry Bradshaw will officiate.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, and 9-11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Barlow Funeral Home.
A prayer service will be 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, at the funeral home.
Memorial contribution may be made to St. Joseph Church.
