Lawrence Ray Gootee, 76, Bardstown, died Sunday, April 29, 2012, at his residence. He was born Feb. 3, 1936, in Lebanon, retired from Kroger after 43 years of service in the meat department, and was a member of St. Gregory Parish.He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Lee and Genieve Mattingly Gootee; three brothers, Walter Gootee, Thomas Gootee, and Paul Gootee; and two sisters, Geraldine Myers and Kathleen Mattingly. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Kathleen Bryan Gootee, Bardstown; two daughters, Kathy (Harry Brook) Greer, Bloomfield, Robin (Gary) Pike, Mooresville; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four stepdaughters, Donna Hite (Barney) Strange and Stephanie (Vince) Rosenblatt, both of Louisville, and Joanni Hite and (Drew Kozakevich), Tucson, Ariz., and Beth Hite (Jay Kraus), Louisville; a stepson, Dan (Saralyn) Hite, Gracey; 10 stepgrandchildren; a stepgreat-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Gregory Church with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. The Rev. John Schwartzlose will officiate. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at Mann and Greenwell Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 p.m. by Deacon Joe Livers. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Nelson County. Mann and Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
