Robert Cecil Summitt Jr., 58, Cox's Creek, died Thursday, July 5, 2012, at his residence. He was a native of Nelson County, an avid golfer and U.K. fan, a retired employee of General Electric and a member of Bloomfield Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Cecil and Emma Jean Lewis Summitt Sr.; two sisters, Peggy Summitt and Janet Gies; and a brother, Gary Summitt. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Roberts Summitt; a daughter, Michelle Lee Reynolds, Bloomfield; two sons, Robert "Robbie" Cecil Summitt III, Bloomfield, and James Michael (Tonya) Summitt, Taylorsville; a stepdaughter, Jennifer (Brandon) Risinger, Bardstown; nine grandchildren; three sisters, Connie (Tony) Hurst, Cox's Creek, Kathy (Mike) Richardson, Chaplin, Debbie (Wayne) Bentley, Shelbyville; and two brothers Joe (Melissa) Summitt, Bloomfield, and Ray Summitt, Taylorsville. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Houghlin Funeral Home with burial in Maple Grove Cemetery, Bloomfield. Brother Richard Carwile will officiate. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Hospice of Nelson County. Houghlin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
