Roger Lee Burns, 74, of Chaplin, passed away Friday, Sept. 7, 2018, at his residence. He was born Dec. 17, 1943, in Nelson County to the late Carl and Ruth Shields Burns. Roger retired from General Electric with 37 years of service, and recently retired from Houghlin Funeral Home after 20 years. He was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Chaplin Baptist Church where he served as a trustee, a former member of Nelson County Planning and Zoning, and was a member of the Bloomfield Masonic Lodge No. 57 F&AM, where he was a past Master.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Travis Burns.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Hood Burns, of Chaplin; his daughter, Rhonda (Pete) Ciarlante, of Chaplin; his son, Lynn (Kellie) Burns, of Chaplin; his sister, Janet (Thomas) Clark, of Bardstown; his sister-in-law, Janet Burns of Bloomfield; four grandchildren, Scarlett Burns, Emily, Corey and Eric Ciarlante; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral is 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, at Chaplin Baptist Church. Pastor Mike Thompson will officiate. Interment will be in Highview Cemetery.
Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield with a Masonic memorial service at 7 p.m.
Additional visitation will be 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, at the church until time of the funeral.
The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contribution to Gideon's International or Hospice of Nelson County.
