Rae Laverne Phillips, 73, of Bardstown, died Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She was born Dec. 3, 1940, in Nelson County. She was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church and St. Monica Worship Committee. She was a graduate of the University of Louisville with a master's degree in teaching, a graduate of Bardstown Training High School at age 16, from Spalding University with a B. S. in education, and a Fifth Year Program from the University of Louisville and advanced Catechetical Certificate.
She retired after 45 years at St. Joseph Catholic School, served on the library board and was on the Nazareth Campus Service Board.
She was preceded in death by her father, Dan Firman; and a son, Charles Terrance "Terry" Phillips.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Charles Phillips, of Bardstown; three children, Candy (David) Lewis, of Bloomfield, Donna (Barry) Lewis, of Bardstown, and Bobby (Alice) Phillips, of Nicholasville; three grandchildren, Terrence Lewis, Amber Lewis and Raeann Lewis; her mother, Naomi Firman; four sisters, Donna Faye (Sonny) Greathouse, of Bardstown, Lillian (Barry) Smallwood, of Lexington, Ann (John) Payne and Connie (Ronnie "Wiener") Ford, both of Bardstown; four aunts, Mary Emma Lydian, of Bardstown, Mildred Davis, of Cox's Creek, Elsie Lydian, of Cox's Creek, and Emma Jean Monteria, of Louisville; three sisters-in-law, Josephine Phillips, of Bardstown, Barbara Edwards, of Oakland, Calif., and Renee (Ron) Turner, of Bardstown; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 4, at St. Monica Catholic Church with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. The Rev. Tom Clark will officiate with the Rev. Bill Hammer and Deacon Scott Turner will concelebrate. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Thursday, April 3, and 9-10:15 a.m. Friday, April 4, at Barlow Funeral Home.
A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 3, by the Rev. Jeff Hopper at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may go towards Masses.
