Deacon Joseph Edward "Eddie" Hutchins, 71, of New Hope, died Thursday, July 17, 2014, at Baptist Health Hospital in Louisville.
He was born April 14, 1943 in New Hope. He was a retired employee of Owens-Illinois Company in Bardstown and was presently serving as Deacon at Saint Catherine Parish in New Haven. He previously served at St. Ann's Church in Howardstown, St. Francis Xavier Church in Raywick and St. Vincent de Paul Church in New Hope. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Alice Mae Cheshire Hutchins, a sister, Barbara Ann Dant and a brother, Johnnie Hutchins.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Shirley Riggs Hutchins; three daughters, Angie Hogge (Mike), of Lexington, Paula Roby (Timmy) and Gina Miles (Pat), all of Cox's Creek; a son, Johnny Hutchins (Carrie), of New Hope; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; six brothers, Phil Hutchins (Rosie) and Mike Hutchins (Kathleen), all of Lebanon, Joe Hutchins (Connie) and Pat Hutchins (Paula), all of Louisville, Keith Hutchins (Joann), of Georgetown, Greg Hutchins (Alma), of Lexington; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 20, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 104 Church St., in New Hope. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The Most Rev. Joseph E. Kurtz and the Rev. Ken Fortener will concelebrate.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Saturday, July 19, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road in Loretto, with a prayer service at 6 p.m. by the Rev. Deacon Jim Cecil, and 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 20, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Phil Hutchins, Mike Hutchins, Joe Hutchins, Pat Hutchins, Keith Hutchins, Greg Hutchins and Wally Dant.
