Joseph Arthur "Art" Thompson, 86, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at Colonial Health and Rehabilitation in Bardstown. He was born Oct. 25, 1926, in Holy Cross, was a former employee of Western Electric, an Army veteran of the Korean War and was a member of St. Joseph Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ballard and Catherine Cotton Thompson; two sisters, Margaret Mary Thompson, SCN, and Anita Snyder; and a brother, John "Cotton" Thompson.
Survivors include his wife, Louise C. Thompson, of Bardstown; two stepsons, Joseph D. Rapier Jr., of Panama City, Fla., and Mark (Brenda) Rapier, of Bardstown; five stepdaughters, Fran (Bill) Hardin, of Springfield, Rita (Ed) Valiant, of Pittsburgh, Charlotte (Pat) Price, of Fuquay-Varina, N.C., Linda (Millard) Sims and Madeline (Wayne) Downs, both of Bardstown; 19 grandchildren, 22 great- grandchildren; a niece; and a nephew.
A Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at the Basilica of St. Joseph-Proto Cathedral with burial in Nazareth Cemetery. The Rev. Bill Hammer will be the celebrant.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, with prayers at 6 p.m. at Clark and Houghlin Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
