GUTIERREZ, Ralph "Doofie"
Ralph "Doofie" Gutierrez, 80 years old, passed away March 29, 2012 in El Monte Ca from complications of Alzheimers
disease, leaving behind his wife Lorene of 57 years, four children Dennie, Denise Rubin, Jolie Eritano & Ralph 'Sam" Jr, 4 grand children, David and Erin Rubin, Tony Eritano and Nickie Bergerson , great-grandson , Gavin, and son-in-law Michael Rubin.
Ralph was born and raised in Boyle Heights, went to Bridge Street, Hollenbeck and Roosevelt High schools, graduated in Summer '50, went into the Army, returned and married. He went on to graduate from Cal State L.A. with a Bachelors Degree in Vocational Education. He began teaching in the LAUSD schools before joining Pasadena City College, where he was a Special Counselor and Administrator. He developed the Cooperative Education Program and he traveled all over the country in talking about educational issues, and returned to the classroom where he retired after 39 years. Ralph served on the El Monte High School Board of Trustees for 8 years and 2 years on the Rio Hondo College Board of Trustee. He also worked for the El Monte High School District as the District Welfare & Attendance "Hookie Cop" where he worked when he retired.
Ralph holds a life time membership in the Tournament of Roses. He also holds membership in the American Legion Post 216, Veterans of Foreign Legion Post 10218. He is a 32nd degree Shiner. Ralph was a fisherman who traveled to catch all the deep sea fishes he could find. He enjoyed his motor home, and of course U.S.C. Football. Ralph loved and helped all people, young and old.
Memorial services all at Rose Hills Cemetery, Wednesday, April 11, 7:00pm, and Interment; Thursday, April 12, 11:00am.
