Bertha Hazel Swink
Passed away November 1, 2012 in Redlands, California where she lived since 2003. Hazel, 96, was born May 8, 1916 in Kismet, KS farm community to Elmer and Bertha Shufelberger. She attended school in Sublette, Kansas and graduated from High School inLiberal, KS. Hazel raised her family in a Seward county farming community 5 miles south of Satanta, Kansas. Later moving to Liberal and residing there for almost 30 years. She spent 14 years as a teacher of the Handicapped in Liberal, KS, and also volunteered for many years on Election Boards, Red Cross, and the Liberal Tourist Center. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband Harrel; parents; daughters Elva and Merna; and 8 siblings. Survived by one sister, Marifae Robinson of Kingman, AZ;
4 children; LaVesta Locklin, Merlin Swink, Eldon Swink, Tammy Swink; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements by: Cortner's Funeral Home, Redlands, CA and Miller Mortuary, Liberal, KS Visitation Friday, November 9 from 3-6 PM at Miller Mortuary.Hazel will be laid to rest in Satanta Township Cemetery. Graveside service Saturday, Nov. 10, at 2 PM.
