MILLER, Elizabeth L.
It is with broken hearts that we
announce the passing of Elizabeth "Patsy" Leonhard Miller on December 14, 2013. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert A. Miller and daughter of the late Ernest Rudolf Leonhard and Kathryn Hasbrouck. Born in Patterson, N.J. on St Patrick's Day, March 17, 1924, she lived 89 years surrounded by a loving family.
She will be remembered as an amazing hostess, terrific volunteer for Assistance League of Arcadia, knowledgeable garden docent for the Huntington Library and award-winning gardener. To her extended family, "Marms" was a role model for how to succeed in marriage, how to travel the world in style, and to always remember the importance of family.
Patsy married the love of her life, Bob in 1944 at age 20 and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1994 shortly before Bob's passing. She raised 4 children in Long Island, Darien, CT and Short Hills, NJ before moving to Arcadia, California where she finally got her swimming pool! She loved her turquoise, wood paneled Edsel in the 60's, and her teal blue Cadillac 40 years later. She doted on her poodles, cats and the hummingbirds that visited her kitchen window feeder daily.
Marms leaves to mourn her loss, her daughters Elizabeth Miller Sperry (Robert), Keppie Miller Sullivan (David) and son Craig Leonhard Miller, Judie Miller and her loving sister, Suzanne McIlhenny and brother-in-law Jack and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marms also leaves 10 grandchildren, Christine Browning, Heather (AJ) Miller, James (Susan) Sperry, Jamie (Kelly) Robertson, Stephen Sullivan, Jeff (Natalie) Sullivan, Kate Sullivan, Justin (Brianna) Miller, Andrew Miller and David Miller.
Finally, she had a special place in her heart for her great grandchildren, Ashley, Holly, Logan and Teagan Miller; Izzy and Lexi Robertson; Eliza, Julia and Emma Browning; Andrew, Catherine, Elizabeth and Anne Sperry and Silas Sullivan.
Her daughter, Deborah Robertson, predeceased her in April 2013. The family gratefully thanks Miriam Menendes who lovingly cared for Patsy in her later years.
A private interment ceremony was held at Forest Lawn.
Donations can be made to Assistance League of Arcadia.
