Hildegarde "Hildy"
Roth Palmer

Hildegarde "Hildy" Roth Palmer, formerly Hildegarde R. Mattimoe, a resident of Long Beach, CA for over thirty-one years, died of natural causes on January 13, 2011 at age 89. Born November 27, 1921 in New York, the daughter of Anna Jonas and William Frederick Roth, she grew up an active youngster who cherished communicating, being active, and the outdoors. Her educational focus was on administrative skills which carried her well through her professional life. She married and moved to California where she spent more than 6 decades as a wife, mother, executive secretary, homemaker, skater and avid dancer well into her 80's, with an outgoing personality and sense of humor that earned her the endearing nickname of "Aunt Ha Ha" among members of her family. Hildy struggled with physical challenges in her later years and reciprocated by donating to various causes for the underprivileged. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert L. Palmer and brother George W. "Bob" Roth, both of CA, survived by her former husband, George E. Mattimoe of Hawaii, her sister Georgine Noury and son Craig Mattimoe both of CA along with many nieces and nephews. Memorial services have been held. Candles are different but the light is the same" - Sri Kaleshwar. Donations in Hildy's name can be made to the Angelus Fellowship of Long Beach, 3505 Long Beach Boulevard, Suite 1-H, Long Beach, CA 90807 CA. Dear Hildy: Good friend and neighbor. It seemed like it was her birthday in 2011 that we went out to eat at Outback. I always admired her joi de vivre and courage to keep on.
