Thomas John Smith

Born April 22, 1932 in Batavia, N.Y. to Hazel Veronica Broderick and Roy Thomas Smith. The family moved to California in 1941. Tom has one sister, Barbara Anne Bradley (Gary), Garden Grove, CA. He attended schools in the Long Beach area. It was at Polytechnic High, where he met his wife, Rena 'Beth' Moore. Tom graduated in June 1951, where he had been active in football, baseball and The Comus Club. Tom is also survived by two sons, Tony (Maggie), of Fountain Valley, CA and Matthew of Lakewood, CA; one daughter, Susan Klusmire (John), Marina, CA. Tom and Beth have twelve grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. He has many cousins in AL, N.Y., and OH; many nephews and nieces, mostly living in California. Tom retired from Rockwell Internatiional, Aerospace, on May 1, 1987. He led a very interesting life working with the early space program, where through the years he kept some life long friends, especially Leroy and Nancy Miller and Tom Maggio, and yes, long time school mate, Ivan Seaton. Tom and Beth retired to the desert town of Yucca Valley, CA in 1998. He was an avid golfer throughout his life, belonging to the Green River Golf Club, mixing in a little fun with other golf teams/tournaments during his working years.
