Carole Ann "Fuzzy" Mauel
Of Woodcrest, died Nov. 7, 2012, in Kaiser Riverside Hospital after a brief struggle with acute leukemia. She was 70.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years, retired Sun columnist Ed Mauel; four children; Kerre A. Reese, of El Sobrante; Jason A. Mauel (Marie), of Woodcrest; Paulie A. Fisher (Larry), of Temecula; Kelly Jean Grimsley, of Brookings, OR; three grandsons, Wesley Grimsley, Tristan and Brenton Fisher; a brother, John (Judette) Sheldon, of Riverside; and a sister, Mary Sheldon Adams, of Pembroke Pines, FL.
A celebration of Mrs. Mauel's life will be in the spring. No services are planned. Burial will be in Riverside National Cemetery. Riverside Neptune Society is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Mauel was born Dec. 29, 1941, in Erith, Kent, England, to Doris Rita (Mack) and William Vincent Sheldon. The family immigrated to the United States in 1957.
Mrs. Mauel worked more than 40 years in the art and news pasteup departments of the Press-Enterprise where she met her husband. They married June 29, 1962, in Riverside. Mrs. Mauel became a naturalized citizen shortly after her second child was born. "My husband and children are Americans and I think I should be too."
She marked her Nov. 6 mail-in ballot in hospital as her final act of citizenship.
