Delma Simon Obituary
Delma Simon, 91, died peacefully on Tuesday April 8th at Atria Del Rey Assisted Living in Rancho Cucamonga. Delma Lorene Ruttle was born on November 6, 1922 in Jenny Lind, Arkansas to Florence and Anton Ruttle. She married Charles "Phil" Simon on January 4, 1941. After the war, Delma and Phil moved to California and settled in Lakewood, where they raised one daughter, Anita. Delma worked at JC Penney as a sales clerk in the men's department for a short time, but worked for most of her life as a homemaker. Phil's work took him to jobs all over the world, and Delma joined him on his longer assignments, including Buson, South Korea and Kenner, Louisiana near New Orleans. Phil and Delma retired to Upland, California in 1986. In retirement Delma enjoyed gardening, trips to Laughlin and Las Vegas, watching Dancing with the Stars, and spending time with her family and friends. Delma was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Phil, daughter Anita, brother Joe, sister-in-law Mary, sister Helen, and brother-in-law Jim. Delma is survived by her granddaughter Rachel (Dan) McConkey, great-grandson Ian, nieces and nephews Linda (Cliff Lee) Curry, Debbie (Bob) Knight, Tony Ruttle (Janice Hilton), Eric Ruttle, Diane (Steve) Bruce, and Lisa (Tom) True, great-nieces and nephews Jeff (Roxanne) Curry, Karisa (Mike) Diephouse, Cameron Bruce, Erin Bruce, Amy Knight, and Kevin True, and great-great-niece and nephews Carson, Tyler, Savannah, Derek, Aiden, Conor, and Jamison Joseph. Services will be held at 2:30PM on Tuesday April 15th at Hope Chapel, Forest Lawn Cypress (4471 Lincoln Ave). Delma's favorite charity was Smile Train; donations are always appreciated.
