Donald Jackson Obituary

DONALD G. JACKSON Passed away at the age of 60 on October 20, 2003, at UCLA Medical Center in Westwood. Born April 24, 1943, in Tremont, Mississippi, he grew up in Adrian, Michigan, and moved to Los Angeles in 1981 to further his film career and became a permanent resident of Winnetka in the San Fernando Valley. Donald was a very unique person with a tireless ambition to live his dream. As a self-described "Zen filmmaker," he believed in "complete artistic control" whenever possible so was often the main producer, director, writer, editor and cinematographer of many of his own low-budget movies. In addition to his love of film, his appreciation for classic cars and music also began when he was young. He was a devoted fan of Bluegrass and Folk music. Survived by his wife, Janet (Kelly) Jackson; and daughter, Kristin "Marty" Jackson of Los Angeles; uncl e and aunt, Douglas and Donna Jackson of Michigan; aunt, Johnnie (Davis) Chism of Alabama; and many cousins. Preceded in death by his parents, Luye and Rosell (Davis) Jackson; grandmother, Shellie (Scott) Jackson; cousin, Mary (Lominick) Rye, all deceased in 2001; and grandfather, Eliga "Jack" Jackson, 1989; and cousin, "Dougie" Jackson, 1982. A special "Thank You" to all the doctors, nurses and staff at UCLA Medical Center and Bowyer Clinic. Cremation and private Interment by Pierce Brothers West wood Village Memorial Park and Mortuary, Los Angeles.
