Gary Melbourne Ochs
On Monday January 28th, Gary Melbourne Ochs peacefully passed into the next life surrounded by his wife and six boys. Gary was born on June 4th 1937 in Berkeley California to John Hilton "Pete" Ochs and Dorothy Jayne Fish. The family later moved to Redding California where Gary graduated from Shasta Union High school in 1955. He received his BA degree in Business Administration from the University of San Francisco in 1977. Gary proudly served in the Navy from 1956 to 1960 as an Aviation Technician at the naval air station at Barber's Point, Oahu, Hawaii. He then served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Spanish American (Spanish Speaking) Mission from 1961 to 1964. After returning to Redding he met his future wife Kay Darley. They married in June of 1964. Gary began work with the Department of Corrections at Folsom Prison in 1967. He worked with the Department of Corrections for a total of 41 years retiring as an Associate Warden. Work brought Gary and his family to Redlands in 1988. Gary was a very devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the Boy Scouts of America and held many positions in both organizations. Gary was a devoted Husband, father, adviser and friend to many people in this area.
Services will be held Thursday, 7 Feb 2013 at 10:00 am at the Redlands LDS Chapel at 1021 East Pioneer Ave. He is survived by his wife Kay and sons John Ochs of Oakdale CA, Steve Ochs of Beaumont CA, Mark Ochs of Calimesa CA, Evan Ochs of Yucaipa CA, Eric Ochs of Beaumont CA and Russell Ochs of Yucaipa CA. He had 21 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandchild.
