A long time resident of Redlands, CA, died peacefully in her sleep on June 28, 2012 in her home. She was 83 years old. She was born in El Paso, Texas on January 23, 1929 to Ramon and Carolina Escudero. Hortensia was the sixth of ten children. The Escudero's moved from El Paso, Texas to Redlands, California when Hortensia was sixteen. She has lived in Redlands ever since. Hortensia was a hard worker all her life. Her five children were her pride and the love of her life. It was a tough time and she worked endlessly to provide everything she could for her children. Her no-nonsense style of parenting provided a strong, structured and loving environment. Her children knew they were loved at all times and that she would do anything for them. Hortensia met the love of her life, Joe Garcia in 1964. Their child, Jo D. Garcia was born in 1966. Joe and Hortensia have shared many wonderful and lovely times together over the last 48 years. Their family has grown and includes many grandchildren and great grandchildren whom Hortensia loved and cherished with all her heart. Hortensia is survived by her husband, Joe A. Garcia, her children, Ernest Diaz, Carolina Wharton DuPont, Peter Diaz, David Diaz, Randolf Diaz, Jo D.
