Mary was born in Tupelo, Mississippi on July 11th, 1927 to William J. Speck and Lottie V. Pannell. She passed away peacefully on July 7th, 2012 at the Beehive House in Magna, Utah. After being orphaned at a young age, she and her younger sister Delores migrated to California in search of a better life, initially settling in East Highland, in 1940. Her first job in California was packing oranges in East Highland at the age of fourteen. Mary graduated from Redlands High School, class of '45, and married Bryce G. Coleman of Oceanside on May 25th, 1946. The union produced five children: Paula, Dianne, Debbie, Bill, and Tim.
Mary was a California resident for over 65 years, 35 of which were spent in Yucaipa. She retired from Pacific Bell Telephone Company after many years as a switchboard operator.
Mary loved people, plants (especially roses), and animals. She genuinely loved her family and friends, and would do anything to see them smile. She was a provider. Her home was a refuge for people who needed a safe place (both short and long term), a warm meal, and a song. She was passionate about the written word and often expressed her love with personalized poems to her family. Her warm heart and easy smile will never be forgotten by the many people who loved her.
Mary is survived by her children, Paula (Kent) Lewis, Debbie (Bobbie), and Tim (Tammi), 13 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her daughter Cynthia Dianne (5/26/92), son William Bryce (7/1/12), and sister, Delores C. Toy, in February, 2010.
Services will be held at 12:00 P.M. Monday, July 16th at Memorial Estates in Salt Lake City, Utah. A celebration of life will be jointly held for Mary's beloved son Bill.
