Miguel M. Mercado (Mike)
Was born May 24, 1927 and was a resident of Colton, California. He passed away on February 21st at age 85. Miguel was born in Oro Grande, CA. He attended Colton High School before serving in the U.S. Army in Germany, then graduated from San Bernardino Valley College. He was employed for 25 years at Kaiser Steel in Fontana CA, then for 5 years at the Colton Unified School District. An avid sportsman, Miguel enjoyed playing handball, and belonged to several local baseball, softball and basketball teams, and was inducted into the Hispanic Baseball Hall of Fame. He is preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Petra Mercado, and by his sister Mary Ramirez and his brothers Rosendo (Chole) and Agapito (Julia). He is survived by his brothers Candido (Rosa), Lolo (Angie), Isaac (Anna) and Joe (Dolores), and sisters Angie Haubner (Jim), Rosalina Robles (Ralph), Connie Gamboa (Art) and Mickey McAllister (Don). He is also survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Margaret, and by his daughters Patty Estrada (Victor), Dolores Ramirez (Ray), and sons Dan, Gabe, and Jay (Arleen), plus 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Services will be held this Wednesday, February 27 at San Salvador Catholic Church, 178 W. K St., Colton, with a viewing at 10:00 am and Mass at 11:00 am, followed by interment at Montecito Memorial Park at 3520 E. Washington St., Colton, at 12:30 pm.
